One of the hardest things to understand when it comes to the debate on Iraq is the difference between how Republicans and Democrats frame the impact of American forces in that country.

Here's a simple way of understanding the difference.

On my right...

On my right...the President, speaking for the Republicans, says that American forces should stay in Iraq because they are contributing to a better Iraq. America should stay, because when American is in Iraq, it is a better place.  Republicans:  American forces in Iraq, a better Iraq. (to read the latest version of this view go here).

On my left...John Edwards, speaking for the Democrats, says that American forces should leave Iraq because they are making Iraq worse. America should leave, because when America is in Iraq, it is a more dangerous place.  Democrats:  American forces in Iraq, a worse Iraq. (to read the latest version of this view go here).

As I see it, you either believe (A) the presence of American troops in Iraq as making that country and our country better, or you believe (B) presence of American troops in Iraq as making that country and our country worse.

Either you are a Republican or you are a Democrat.

The country can have a long term discussion on how to implement the Republican or Democratic perspective on Iraq, but everyone in this country--every Senator, every Congressperson, every citizen--must first make a basic choice:

Better 'A' or 'B'?

Now, if you voted 'A' then come next November, make sure you vote for a 'Republican' at the polls.  And if you voted 'B' then be sure to vote for a 'Democrat' at the poll  (A: Republican  B:  Democrat).

Any questions?
