Frameshop: Republicans Out, Lights On

light For yet another year under Republican Party rule, America is suffering through the angry days and sticky nights of blackout season.

In the Republican's version of 'free market' America, when the temperature spikes above 85 in New York :  blackouts,  people die.

In the Republican's version of 'free market' America, when the temperature  shoots above 90 in California:  blackouts, people die.

In the Republican's version of 'free market' America, a rainstorm rolls into Ohio or Michigan or Indiana or Illinois:  blackouts, thousands sit helpless as their groceries rot.

In the Republican's version of 'free market' America, utility corporations grow larger and larger, delivering greater and greater returns to their shareholders, while more and more Americans wonder if they and their families will be the next victims of a blackout.

I remember as little as 5 years ago when living in America meant that the lights would always turn on when you flipped the switch.  Not anymore.  After a half-decade of Republicans ruling all three branches of our government, the 'free market' economy has turned out national electrical grid into a 'hit or miss' system.  No lights today?  Oh, well. Try again tomorrow.

I remember when I used to kiss my wife goodbye in the morning and say, "See you later." Now, we wake up and go over our blackout emergency plan.

"OK...if there's a blackout,  let's meet on the corner near your office...I'll buy some extra batteries for the flashlights, you get the bottled water--no, wait.  I'll get the water, you get the batteries...is our analog phone still working?"  Ah, yes.  This is the good life in the Republican Party's vision of America where no utility company is ever compelled to reinvest their staggering profits in an electrical grid that can withstand the heat of summer.

Heaven forbid that when Americans work hard, play by the rules, and pay their constantly rising electrical bills on time month after month after month--heaven forbid the lights should actually go on, and stay on, when we flick the switch.

The solution?  Easy:  Vote the Republicans out of office.

"REPUBLICANS OUT! LIGHTS ON!" That should be the Progressive rallying cry.  If America ever want to turn the lights back on, we better start electing some Democrats.
