Hee Haw! Trent Lott is back in the saddle again as a big #2 (...ehem) for the Republicans in the Senate. And with that choice, the Republicans once again embrace the politics of openness and inclusion.
Not.
This photo is from Strom Thurmond's 100th birthday party and don't' they all just look so happy. Bush in particular looks very young and rested.
Ah, the good old days. No terrorism, no homeland security, no hurricanes--just good old fashion Republican racism. (sigh....)
Who says they can never go home again?
Strange days. The RNC appoints Martinez to turn back the rising tide of Republican racism against Latinos. Then the Senate Republicans put Lott back in the saddle as number 2.
Can the Republicans reject and embrace the politics or racism at the same time? Uh, I doubt it.
They look so happy standing around Thurmond. Can't imagine those feelings have gone away already.
As Lott said way, way back in 2002:
"I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years."
Lott meant that he "voted for" Thurmond in 1948 when he ran as the States' Rights Party candidate for president.
2002?!?!? That was four years ago. Yikes! I can barely remember what I ate for lunch yesterday, let alone the racist speeches of a Republican Senator four years ago.
So, it looks like happy days are back for the Republicans in the Senate.
